Upcoming Event: Seedy Saturday

RUE reader Douglas sent us info on an event happening this weekend focusing on food security, gardening, and sharing community resources.

Food prices getting higher? Ever thought about starting a garden? It all starts with a seed….

“SEEDY SATURDAY” takes place this Saturday, March 5th, in the Cathedral neighborhood at St. Mary’s Anglican Church (3337 15th Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. including an 11:00 a.m. workshop with Jim Ternier from Prairie Garden Seeds.

Vegetable and flower seeds will also be available for purchase from prairie seed companies: Prairie Garden Seeds (Saskatchewan); Blazing Star wildflower seeds (Saskatchewan); Heritage Harvest Seed (Manitoba); and certified organic bedding plants from Laureen LaBrash, Lumsden

There will also be a local garden seed exchange table! Bring your seeds(heirloom if possible/maybe their story also) to trade.

Admission is by donation (pay what you can) — all proceeds will be donated to Seeds of Diversity Canada

At Seedy Saturday, our community can come together to collect and share our own open-pollinated seed stock, to learn about why it’s important to plant heirloom varieties of vegetables and flowers, and to learn the proper way to save and store garden seeds.

For more information about this event, call (306) 586-0887

Seedy Saturday is organized by: the Weston A. Price Foundation, Regina Chapter and Seeds of Diversity Canada, with special thanks to St. Mary’s Anglican church for hosting.
