Blueprint America

On Monday I watched a PBS television program called “Beyond the Motor City,”(click here for the video and website) part of the Blueprint America series.  The program is good overview of American transportation history, the Spanish high-speed rail system and the mass transportation history and future revitalization of Detroit, all in 90 minutes.

What I enjoy most about the program is how it links creating population density with mass transportation access, both today and showing the process historically.  There are also some interesting ideas of urban renewal for Detroit: involving urban agriculture, neighbourhood triage, re-introduction of mass transit, desegregation and utilizing the abundant, empty, old  manufacturing spaces.
